Tried It, Gonna Buy It: Biossance Resurfacing Night Serum
Remember when Carrie Bradshaw saw the Vogue closet for the first time? That’s how I would feel if I walked into a beauty editor’s office. In my mind, it’s a bright room with floor-to-ceiling shelves stocked with tinctures, scrubs, and creams. Notepads sit next to sinks for recording first thoughts on a cleanser’s slip, feel, and efficacy. Cotton balls are mashed into and brim over the tops of glass vases. And the true beauty winners sit at the editor’s desk—her true cant’t-live-without products are always close.
I’ve dreamed of being a beauty editor because I love magazines and because I can’t imagine the joy of trying new products every day for free. In my tenure as a skincare writer, I’ve repeatedly volunteered myself as guinea pig in the name of science & beauty. (And I’ve received a lot of gratis or discounted products as a thank you!)
Because of my free skincare good fortune, paying full price brings a scowl to my face. But, paying full price is also a testament to a product’s wow factor. Enter Biossance Squalane + Lactic Acid Resurfacing Night Serum. At a moderately steep $62 price point and coming in at only 1 fluid ounce, it wasn’t an easy purchase, but it was necessary to continue this unbelievable radiance coming off of my skin in the dead of winter.
I invested 100 Sephora Beauty Insider points into a 4 mL (AKA teeny) sample. I’m no stranger to a good chemical exfoliant, and Glycolic Acid is my ol’ faithful when my glow has hit the road (Read: The Ordinary AHA 30% BHA 2% Peeling Solution). But, Biossance lists 10% vegan Lactic Acid as it’s star ingredient.
Chemical acids can be drying. Biossance counters this with the cornerstone of their formulas, super hydrating squalane (not squalene).
BIOSSANCE’S PRODUCT CLAIMS: ARE THEY TRUE?
CLAIM #1: The Biossance site says, “This powerhouse retexturizing treatment dissolves dead surface cells and reveals soft, luminous new skin below.”
My skin says yes—this is absolutely a true statement. After using for one night only, I woke up to skin that made me do a double take.
CLAIM #2: “Unlike other treatments with long wait times, results are visible quickly—as soon as overnight, or after only 1-2 weeks.”
I’m 2 days in and can see a very visible difference in radiance & plumpness. My skin looks refreshed.
CLAIM #3: “Powerful but non-irritating, the silky serum delivers silky skin—at any age.”
Absolutely non-irritating, and my skin flares up just at the mention of exfoliation. I’m confident the squalane is nourishing my skin while the Lactic Acid works its magic.
The results are rapid, and I’m excited to see if they last once my full size gets delivered.
